About the editors
Christopher Robertson is lecturer in Inclusive and Special Education at the University of Birmingham. He specialises in the educational needs of pupils with physical disabilities and those with learning difficulties. He has written on various aspects of inclusive education, focusing particularly on how pupils' needs can be met effectively, and how SENCOs, teachers, learning support assistants, families and pupils can work in partnership.

Dr Colin Smith has written widely on various aspects of SEN and has concentrated in recent years on issues concerning the role of SENCOs. Until recently he lectured at the University of Birmingham, the largest SEN department in the UK and a centre of excellence in the fields of special educational needs and inclusion. He has played a key role in developing collaborative professional development programmes for SENCOs and other education professionals in the West Midlands over many years. He is also the founder editor of SENCO Update.
